Case physics alum Virgil Brown represents the Cleveland area to the State Board of Education. An attorney in private practice, Brown has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of education for all of Ohio's students.

After receiving his bachelor's degree in physics at Case Western Reserve University, Brown earned a J.D. degree, cum laude, from Cleveland State University. Brown was elected to the State Board in 2000 and is currently seeking re-election. He is a member of the Board's Resources Committee and has also served on the Governor's Commission on Teaching Success and participates in the Urban Schools Initiative.

Currently a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee, Brown has served as the judge in the Shaker Heights Municipal Court responsible for all civil and criminal cases and the financial and administrative management of the five-city district. He has also been a referee for Cleveland's Civil Service Commission and a guest lecturer and volunteer high school tutor. Brown has been a member or officer of numerous organizations, including the American Bar Association, Cleveland Business League, Citizens League, City Club, Bethany Baptist Church, COSE, and American Judges Association.

Representing the Eleventh State Board District, Brown serves approximately two thirds of Cuyahoga County, including Cleveland. His term expires December 31, 2004.
