Located above campus up Cedar Hill is the Alcazar. Designed by Harry T. Jeffery and fellow Clevelanders Kent Smith and George Halse, it opened in 1923. Modeled after the similarly named Alcazar in Seville, Spain, the hotel is a five-story pentagon with wings surrounding a lush botanical courtyard with a center fountain. The Alcazar became one of Cleveland's most chic addresses, frequented by the local elite, dignitaries, and celebrities. Entertainer Bob Hope kept a suite here, as did composer Cole Porter, who reportedly wrote his hit, "Night and Day", while in residence. |
Located on the campus of Case Western Reserve University, the Glidden House is within walking distance to Cleveland's finest museums and cultural institutions.
